New: low-cost mobile phoning

   Before HyFONE and future similar phone operators, the benefits of low-cost telephony were limited to fixed lines (home or office) or to computer-based Voice-over-IP (VoIP on a notebook). 
   But today it has become technically possible to use new small mobile devices to achieve extremely low-cost telephony from any wireless hotspot in the world (WiFi and WiMAX in the near future), as long as you have the right to connect to the hotspot where you are.


Different from Skype 

If your interest is solely in mobile telephony, then HyFONE is different from Skype for four main reasons:
1- HyFONE uses an open standard called SIP whereas Skype has a proprietary interface and software. This means that HyFONE will have competition and cannot keep you captive.

2- HyFONE provides you with a real phone number that any person in the world can dial (expensive option with Skype) as a standard feature of the HyFONE subscription.

3- Most importantly, HyFONE works WITHOUT any PC or computer or notebook. Any HyFONE-enabled mobile phone will do. NO NEED to carry around a bulky computing device and wait for ages to boot up. HyFONE means FREEDOM from the computing tyranny.

4- Most importantly, HyFONE is not a security threat to any company network. Unlike Skype that uses personal computers in a peer-to-peer mode, HyFONE does not use personal computers at all and is not based on a peer-to-peer architecture. As reported in the Wall Street Journal dated march 31st 2006, many companies have prohibited their employees from using internet services (including Skype) for fear of viruses and other problems. On the contrary, HyFONE enables companies to separate their VoiP mobile networks from their LANs. This makes HyFONE inherently safe and separate from the rest of the information system.
